Ogilvy and Allenby in heated, public argument

Robert Allenby and Geoff Ogilvy

Robert Allenby and Geoff Ogilvy got into a heated argument on Sunday at the Australian PGA Championship, according to several reports.

The countrymen and Presidents Cup teammates had a verbal altercation after the tournament at the host Hyatt Regency resort's Village Square. Allenby fell in a three-man playoff to Greg Chalmers.

The argument reportedly stemmed from public remarks each player made.

Allenby, who went 0-4-0 at Royal Melbourne, was critical of his teammates' performance, saying they put him in impossible positions to perform well.

Mell: No 'I' - or Allenby - in team

"People look and say how disappointing can you be, because you didn't get a point, but when you're relying on someone else as well, it's sometimes not all just you," Allenby said.

Ogilvy, who teamed with Allenby in the Saturday morning foursomes and lost, 3 and 2, to Webb Simpson and Bubba Watson, sent a tweet at the Australian PGA that read, “[W]arms the heart to see Robert playing so well this week.”

Allenby perceived the comment as sarcastic, which led to the confrontation.

"It was just two guys who'd had a few tough weeks letting off some steam and getting some things off their chest," said Allenby's manager Tony Bouffler, according to the Australian Associated Press. "It appears from what I've heard things may have been blown out of proportion. They're good mates and they're still good mates."
