Ogilvy comes up short in Masters bid

HUMBLE, Texas – Geoff Ogilvy tried to give himself a chance at playing in another Masters. He would have been better off staying home.

With one final chance to get into the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking at week’s end to qualify for the Masters, Ogilvy posted scores of 73-79 to miss the Shell Houston Open cut and crush those Masters hopes.

If he had skipped the tournament, Ogilvy would right now be projected as 50th in the world at week’s end, which would guarantee his eighth straight Masters start.

With the missed cut, though, he will not be in the field, projected at 53rd with no way to finish in the top 50.
