MEDINAH, Ill. – On the eve of the 39th Ryder Cup, European captain Jose Maria Olazabal provided the most humorous moment of the week.
Olazabal was asked how he will view the matches Friday morning in the opening foursomes session. Will he stick with one match, or will he be more like his late pal Seve Ballesteros and drive around from match to match like a madman?
“I have to be careful how I drive the buggy,” Olazabal said. “I don’t want to get fined like I did when I was going from Augusta to Hilton Head.
Olazabal was stopped for speeding this year after The Masters on his way to the RBC Heritage. He was clocked going 97 mph in a 65-mph zone in a small Georgia town. Olazabal was allowed to follow the deputy to the sheriff’s office where he posted a $621 cash bond and was released.
“I’m going to be there,’ Olazabal said of his style. ‘I’m going to be close to the guys. But I’m not imposing myself.
