Olympian hits wife in eye with errant golf shot

A friendly round of golf for Olympic skiier Bode Miller took an unfortunate turn Wednesday when he struck his wife in the face with an errant shot.

The pair were playing together when the Olympian's shot hit his wife, Morgan, in the eye, resulting in a gruesome injury (WARNING: Graphic image).

The injured Miller, who is a pro volleyball player and model, detailed the incident via her Twitter account @morganebeck.

'I'm not feeling so hot. Line drive to the face today with a golf ball from my darling husband,' she wrote.

The injury resulted in dozens of stitches, but Miller tweeted Thursday night that she was already discharged from the hospital, giving credit to the impact-resistant sunglasses she was wearing at the time.

'A huge thank you to @Kaenon,' she added. 'By absorbing a 160mph line drive I only got 50+ stitches instead of losing my eye #lucky.'

Miller, 35, won medals in skiing for the United States at both the 2002 and 2010 Olympics. He joked about the incident on his Twitter account @millerbode, saying, 'I played my first round of golf lefthanded yesterday. It was pretty amazing. Los of terrible shots for my wife to laugh at.'

Friday morning, his wife shared an updated photo via Instagram and detailed her status. 'Making lots of progress,' she tweeted. 'Less bruising, flawless stitches but still no vision and some numbness on my head.'
