LEMONT, Ill. – There is an Olympic-sized buzz at the BMW Championship and it's not just about the FedEx Cup.
The Chicago-area fans are excited to have PGA Tour golf back in the area for the first time in two years and the course changes at Cog Hill are dramatic. I spoke with David Toms, Jerry Kelly, Dustin Johnson, Heath Slocum, Robert Allenby and Pat Perez during their practice rounds. That's a solid combination of short, mid-range and big hitters. All agree that Cog Hill is long, especially the par 3s.
Two commented that the greens are still quite young and need to mature. Four of them said that it could easily host a U.S. Open tomorrow. With the talk of the Olympics coming to Chicago in 2016, Tiger Woods suggested that Cog Hill just might be the perfect public venue.
