Louis Oosthuizen made it through the first round of the Dunhill Links Championship without incident.
That’s a good sign for International Presidents Cup captain Nick Price.
Oosthuizen hasn’t played since he withdrew from the British Open citing neck, back and hip injuries. Those ailments have dogged the 2010 Open champion for much of the season, as he has recorded just three top 10s in 15 worldwide starts and slipped to No. 28 in the world.
On Thursday, the South African played Carnoustie, the most difficult of the three courses in the event rotation, and shot a 2-over 74. When he finished his round, he was T-142 out of 167 players.
The Dunhill was a virtual must-start for Oosthuizen, who, assuming he suffers no further setbacks, is still expected to play in next week’s Presidents Cup at Muirfield Village.
