Among the perks, and choices, that come with winning a major championship is the lure of a PGA Tour card.
Before Louis Oosthuizen’s Open Championship breakthrough at St. Andrews the South African had played in just 15 Tour events with his best finish a tie for 20th at the 2009 WGC-CA Championship.
With the claret jug, however, comes an invitation to join the Tour. According to Oosthuizen’s manager, Chubby Chandler with International Sports Management, he will wait until November to decide whether to take Tour membership but “it is likely.”
Until then Oosthuizen’s schedule will remain busy. He’s scheduled to play next week’s WGC-Bridgestone Invitational followed by the PGA Championship, four European Tour events beginning with the European Masters in early September and the WGC-HSBC Champions before likely closing his season at the Dubai World Championship in November and three tournaments back home in South Africa.
