NORTON, Mass. – According to members of his management team, Louis Oosthuizen is putting and chipping and plans to play the Dunhill Links Championship at the end of this month in Scotland.
This is notable only because as today’s race for a spot on the International and U.S. Presidents Cup teams conclude at the Deutsche Bank Championship, Oosthuizen’s decision means that if he can’t play the matches in October International captain Nick Price will receive another captain’s pick to replace him.
If Oosthuizen – who has been sidelined with a neck and back injury since missing the cut at the John Deere Classic and is fifth on the points list – were to withdraw from the matches before the teams are set this afternoon the final spot would go to the 11th-ranked player on the points list, who is currently Thongchai Jaidee.
But since the South African is going to wait to decide his Presidents Cup fate, it will be up to Price to decide who replaces Oosthuizen if it comes to that.
