Orender nixes LPGA flirtations

WNBA commissioner Donna Orender has told the LPGA she’s not interested in becoming its next commissioner.

That’s the word Mechelle Voepel got from Orender Sunday in an interview for ESPN.com during the WNBA finals in Indianapolis.

“I believe in the promise of what everyone thought this league could be when it started 13 seasons ago, and it's going to continue to grow,' Orender said of the WNBA. 'The impact basketball has on young girls and the society at large is incredible. I've invested a lot of time in this, and have worked with really great people. I want to keep being part of that growth.'

That leaves U.S. Golf Association chief business officer Peter Bevacqua as the most prominent name identified in the public circle as the next potential LPGA commissioner, though LPGA officials say the search is ongoing.
