SAN DIEGO – It’s not often a PGA Tour player merrily switches places with the ticket-wielding masses, but when it happens it’s usually an eye-opening event.
That was John Rollins’ sentiment on Sunday as he trailed the final threesome of Phil Mickelson, Bill Haas and good friend Hunter Mahan. Asked after the round to elaborate, Rollins, who missed the cut at Torrey Pines, had a familiar observation.
“You can’t see anything. Not if you’re following a marquee group,” said Rollins, who was driving to Palm Springs Sunday afternoon with Mahan to play in Ben Crane’s charity event on Monday.
Rollins did have one advantage over the rank-and-file, a Tour member’s credential which allowed him to Tweet from the golf course: “I have a greater appreciation for the fans.”
