DORAL, Fla. – Worked out with PGA Tour fitness guru Sean Cochran, a genuinely nice fellow who seemed to get nasty about midway through the 60-minute session.
“This is Phil’s favorite,” said Cochran, referring to a physio-ball cable rotation exercise that his most high-profile student (Mickelson) seemed to enjoy. Not sure why.
Cochran wouldn’t confirm Mickelson put him up to some extra intensity in the gym, but it sure felt like it. Good guy that Lefty, but one too many “In-n-Out Burger” lines can make anyone pine for payback.
Most of all the session reminded us how fit Tour types are, and how advanced and specific the fitness side of golf has become. Under all the stylish shirts and colorful belts are athletes.
