Palmer, Nicklaus headline Father/Son Challenge field

Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus will headline a field of the game's greats at the PNC Father/Son Challenge later this year.

Contested for the first time since 2008, the event will pit 18 teams of two against each other in a scramble format. To qualify, players must have won either a major championship or Players Championship during their career; this year's field has combined for 492 professional wins on the PGA and European Tours, including 67 majors.

Fifteen of the 18 teams will feature players alongside their sons, including Nicklaus, who will play with son Gary. Palmer will team with grandson Will Wears, while Fuzzy Zoeller and Bernhard Langer will pair with their daughters in the 36-hole exhibition.

This year's field also includes Larry Nelson, who won the event with son Josh when it was last held four years ago. Other champions participating include Steve Elkington, Nick Faldo, Raymond Floyd, Hale Irwin, Lee Janzen, Davis Love III, Sandy Lyle, Mark O'Meara, Vijay Singh, Dave Stockton, Curtis Strange, Lee Trevino and Lanny Wadkins.

This year's event will be held Dec. 15-16 at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Fla.
