Park leads Gal, Ko in Swinging Skirts

Rolex world No. 1 Inbee Park is threatening to end her brilliant 2013 season with an exclamation point.

Park, who won the year’s first three major championships in women’s golf, opened with a 9-under-par 63 Friday to take the lead against a strong international field at the Swinging Skirts World Ladies Masters in Taiwan. It is a co-sanctioned Taiwan LPGA and Korean LPGA event. Four of the top seven players in the Rolex women’s world rankings are in the field.

The South Korean Park leads Scotland’s Catriona Matthew by two shots with Germany’s Sandra Gal and South Korea’s Na Yeon Choi four back. New Zealand’s 16-year-old phenom Lydia Ko, Taiwan’s own Yani Tseng and South Korea’s So Yeon Ryu are five back. Tseng is teeing it up for the first time since undergoing hernia surgery, a procedure that kept her out of the LPGA’s season-ending CME Group Titleholders. American Paula Creamer opened with a 72.
