Parr, 26, the Canadian Tour pro who rebounded from a stroke 20 months ago to qualify for the U.S. Open, shot 4-over-par 74.
With his story getting international attention after he shot to the top of the leaderboard early Thursday, Parr said he could sense people following him Friday knew his recovery story.
“Plus I got hundreds of e-mails and posts on my Web site,” said Parr, who was raised in London, Ontario, Canada. “Lot of positive vibes, lots of free love.”
Parr suffered a stroke when a hole in his heart led to a blood clot as he visited a girlfriend in Toronto in the fall of 2007. He was paralyzed on his right side but with medication and rehabilitation has recovered.
