Pepper: American players getting outworked

KOHLER, Wis. – Why aren’t American women winning more U.S. Women’s Opens?

Dottie Pepper, the NBC and Golf Channel analyst who was just named assistant captain of the American Solheim Cup team, has an idea.

“They are just flat getting outworked,” Pepper said during Saturday’s NBC telecast.

Pepper said she sees it at LPGA events, where South Koreans typically close down the range at sunset.

“I went to the LPGA Championship for a couple of days at the beginning of the week. One stretch on Monday, midday, there was not one American on the driving range. Not one.”

If Na Yeon Choi wins the U.S. Women’s Open at Blackwolf Run Sunday, she will be the fourth South Korean to win this championship in the last five years.
