The PGA Tours pool guy

Some players look for answers in the dirt, others resort to the soft couch of a sports psychologist or the tough confines of the fitness trailer. Brendon de Jonge, however, has discovered his best golf is born from the relaxed solitude of a pool-side perch.

It all started for De Jonge earlier this year on Hilton Head Island, S.C., when he readied for the Verizon Heritage by relaxing adjacent a warm pool before posting middle rounds of 69-67.

Since that peaceful epiphany the native of Zimbabwe has installed a pool in his Charlotte, N.C., home and has finished a career-best fourth (Quail Hollow Championship), was among the early leaders following an opening 69 at Pebble Beach and locked up his 2011 Tour card with his tie for ninth place last week at TPC River Highlands.

“That’s my spot,” De Jonge said of his home-made paradise.

Following his first round at Pebble Beach a friend texted him some telling words of encouragement, “Nice start, pool guy.”
