Phil, Keegan trade funny jabs at Bridgestone

AKRON, Ohio – Keegan Bradley tried to throw a jab at Phil Mickelson. He received a knockout punch in return.

During his congratulatory message for Mickelson after winning the Open Championship, the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational defending champion tried to give him a little grief, too.

“I texted him, and it was fun to talk to him about the round,” Bradley said. “This was a couple of days ago. We were double checking we were going to play on Tuesday, and I said, ‘I know you're the champion golfer of the year, but I'll teach you how to play Akron if you want.’ And he only responded with, ‘I won there when you were nine years old.’”

Indeed, Mickelson won the 1996 World Series of Golf here at Firestone Country Club.

Bradley, a frequent practice round partner of Mickelson, took the exchange in good humor and offered his sincere thoughts on the win at Muirfield.

“I was so thrilled for the guy,” he said. “I just love to see him win because he puts the effort in that I feel is needed to win tournaments. Sometimes I see people win that may not put it in, and it kind of worries me because I want to be prepared, and what Phil does is he is prepared to win every major.”
