CROMWELL, Conn. – Both U.S. Open champion Justin Rose and his caddie Mark Fulcher are from England but have proven right at home in Philadelphia.
Rose’s victory on Sunday at Merion was Fulcher’s fourth in the Philadelphia area. He won twice while caddying for Laura Davies at the LPGA Championship, played at DuPont Country Club which is in Delaware but just a short ride down I-95 south from Philadelphia.
In 2010 he caddied for Rose when he won the 2010 AT&T National at Aronimink and completed the Philly Slam on Sunday at Merion.
“I’d really like the British Open to be held in Philadelphia,” Fulcher joked on Sunday.
Fulcher had a feeling he and Rose were in for a special week when he noticed a few years ago that Merion would return to the Open rotation in 2013.
“Three or four years ago I said, ‘Oh dear, the Open is in Philadelphia,’ and Justin told me, ‘Calm down, mate. Just because the Open is in Philadelphia,’” Fulcher said. “It’s unbelievable.”
