Players bracing for high winds Sunday at Heritage

Harbour Town is already one of the most claustrophobic layouts on the PGA Tour.

Try playing the course with the wind whipping.

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind advisory for Hilton Head Island from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday. That, of course, is when the leaders will play the final round of the RBC Heritage; the final group of Charley Hoffman and Webb Simpson is scheduled to tee off at 1:55 p.m. ET.

“This golf course is tricky in the best of times,” Graeme McDowell told reporters on Saturday. “But put a stiff breeze across it, and it will really test us.”

Just how windy will it get? The early forecast is for a steady 20-30 mph wind, with gusts up to 40-45 mph. High winds forced a Monday finish here in 2007, with Boo Weekley prevailing for the title.

As Kevin Streelman told reporters, “It’s going to be a bloodbath out here.”
