Pleasant surprise for Rock

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – When Robert Rock went to bed late Friday he’d figured his chances to play the weekend at the Open Championship had slipped with one too many missed drives and a sloppy par at the last.

By the time he made it off the golf course Saturday afternoon he’d shot the round of the day (67) and worked his way into the fringes of contention.

“I was sure playing the last (hole on Friday) the cut was 1 over and I’d missed my chance,” said Rock, who was at 2-over 146 through two rounds. “I don’t know if (his third round) gets me in contention but it’s nice to just play at St. Andrews.”
