The race for East Lake, and all the exemptions that brings, may be over but for a handful of players there’s still one final hurdle to be cleared.
Ten players will be vying for the final spots at this year’s WGC-HSBC Champions event in China, an official PGA Tour event this year with a rich purse and limited field.
Tour winners are already exempt into the event and after Sunday’s final round at East Lake the top 5 players from the FedEx Cup points list will earn a spot at Sheshan International the first week of November.
Among those on the bubble will be Paul Casey, Martin Laird, Retief Goosen, Kevin Na, K.J. Choi, Jeff Overton, Ryan Moore, Nick Watney, Kevin Streelman and Bo Van Pelt.
For the record, Tiger Woods – who did not earn a spot at East Lake and failed to win a Tour event for the first time in his career – will be at the HSBC event via his victory at the 2009 Australian Masters.
