The field for next month’s Volvo Match Play Championship is taking shape.
European Ryder Cuppers Ian Poulter, Graeme McDowell, Peter Hanson and Nicolas Colsaerts are among the latest commits to the May 16-19 event, which will be held opposite the PGA Tour’s Byron Nelson Championship.
“Everyone knows I love match play and I can’t wait for this week as it’s one of my favorite tournaments of the year,” Poulter said, according to a release.
The 24-man match-play tournament moves this year to a new venue, the Thracian Cliffs Course in Bulgaria, which has been regarded as the “Pebble Beach of Europe.”
According to a release last year, the Gary Player-designed course is “framed by rugged coastal cliffs and the vast blue of the Black Sea, which can be viewed from each and every hole.”
The Match Play had been held at Finca Cortesin in Spain for the past three years. Last year, Colsaerts defeated McDowell in the final.
