Poulter wants match play at 2016 Olympics

Golf's return to the Olympics in 2016 should be a match-play affair, as far as Ian Poulter is concerned.
The match-play terror from Ryder Cups past believes the format is the game's most compelling and perfect for the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.
“Most other sports are one-on-one,” said Poulter on Wednesday, according to the Telegraph in the United Kingdom. “And that’s why I think viewers enjoy match play more. It’s more exciting and plays out better on TV. I think match play would suit the Olympics better.”
The proposed format for the Olympic revival is a 72-hole stroke play affair. Poulter, who defends this week at the Volvo World Match Play Championship, won his lone event in the United States in taking the WGC-Accenture Match Play in 2010.
Given Poulter's affinity for match play, it's no surprise he would prefer to have more events feature the format.
“How about every week?” he said. “The more we play, the better. I love the cut-throat, face-to-face nature of it and find the buzz a refreshing change from what we play week in and week out."
