Poulter WDs from Charlotte for 'personal reasons'

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Ian Poulter flew to Charlotte on Tuesday to speak with children from the Boys & Girls Clubs about utilizing science and math to help their golf games.

It’s the kind of thing PGA Tour players do in the host city of a tournament on a weekly basis. What they don’t often do afterward is fly home.

Following the clinic, Poulter withdrew from the Wells Fargo Championship, citing “personal reasons,” according to his manager.

Just a few days earlier, the prolific tweeter had taken to the social media site in showing some worry over the greens here at Quail Hollow, many of which have drawn criticism.

Poulter is scheduled to play in next week’s Players Championship.
