Poulters knee ready for Woods pairing

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Ian Poulter reports his ailing left knee is fit and ready for play this week at The Players Championship.

Poulter, who finished second here a year ago, is paired with Tiger Woods and Hunter Mahan in the first two rounds. They go off the first tee at 1:28 p.m. on Thursday. Poulter remembers playing against Woods in a Ryder Cup and in Japan but not in the United States.

Poulter hurt his knee playing basketball in his driveway with friends in Orlando, Fla., before the Zurich Classic of New Orleans last month. He said he didn’t twist it noticeably, but he felt it give out walking up some stairs afterward. He tried to play New Orleans but withdrew after nine holes of the pro-am. He healed with the help of anti-inflammatories and ice packs
