POY Lewis runs out of gas at Titleholders

NAPLES, Fla. – Stacy Lewis was running on nearly empty this weekend at the CME Group Titleholders at TwinEagles Club.

An emotional acceptance of the Rolex Player of the Year award Friday night took its toll. Lewis is the first American in 18 years to win the award. Beth Daniel, the last to win it, presented the award.

“When I walked onto the stage Friday night was when it finally hit me,” Lewis said. “All the emotions of that night just took the energy out of me. I have been pretty dead the last two days. It’s all kind of hit me, and I think I just let myself enjoy things this weekend.”

Lewis shot 72 Saturday and 74 Sunday and was tied for 29th with the leaders coming into the home stretch of the final round.

Lewis’ work isn’t finished at TwinEagles. She will team with Hall of Famer Betsy King in the ISPS Handa Heroes team event Monday at TwinEagles. After that, Lewis plans to go a week without touching her golf clubs while spending Thanksgiving with her parents and sisters. She will enjoy a thrill the day after Thanksgiving when she leads her beloved Arkansas Razorbacks onto the field to play LSU at Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville, Ark.
