Pressel withdraws from U.S. Open with tendinitis

KOHLER, Wis. – Morgan Pressel, plagued by tendinitis in her right thumb and wrist, withdrew Friday from the U.S. Women’s Open after making a sextuple-bogey 10 on the 14th hole.

Pressel, who was 12 when she qualified for her first U.S. Women’s Open, 13 when she played in it, has been struggling with tendinitis that started in her thumb and has begun to creep into her wrist and deeper into her right arm. She also withdrew from the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship last week.

Pressel was 18 when she became the youngest winner of a major, claiming the Kraft Nabisco Championship in 2008.
