AUGUSTA, Ga. – Jim McGovern, Tour journeyman and all-world good guy, is working for Westwood One Radio this week as a analyst at the Masters and has played the year’s first major twice, 1994 and ’95. Saturday morning he started reminiscing. Pull up a chair.
In 1995 he was paired with Nick Price and after an opening 77 and a front-nine 37 on Day 2 left little chance of making the cut he decided to liven things up with an innocent bet.
“Let’s play for a case of beer,” McGovern asked Price, who eagerly accepted the bet. “He shot (32) on the back nine and I asked, ‘How thirsty are you?’ I got him back, I only paid him a 12-pack.”
