“Prove it to me!”

Welcome to the inaugural posting, one man probing the doubt created in the past week’s action, or the doubt lying in wait during the week ahead. Doubt is golf’s great goblin, an insidious foe that must be beaten every week.

So prove it to me . . .

Lee Westwood: Prove you’ve got the goods to become the first player in 76 weeks to win a PGA Tour or European Tour event while holding the No. 1 ranking. Prove it on the Euro Tour with a victory at this week’s Ballantine’s Championship in South Korea. Nobody’s won on the world’s two most important tours while holding the No. 1 ranking since Tiger Woods won the BMW Championship in 2009.

Luke Donald: Prove the folks wrong who think your playoff loss to Brandt Snedeker at the Heritage last weekend is further evidence you're lacking something vital under pressure when a victory is on the line. Prove you are the hottest player in the world right now, if not also the best, by winning the Zurich Classic in New Orleans this week.

Ernie Els: Prove your putting stroke hasn’t gone so awry you’re no longer going to be a factor in the biggest events. Prove it with that new long putter of yours, or a short putter, but prove it with a confident rebound this week at the Ballantine’s Championship. The 75-78 you shot with the dramatic move to a belly putter at the Heritage last week was disconcerting because you've done so well on those small greens over the years.

Stacy Lewis: Prove momentum is still yours despite a three-week break after your victory at the Kraft Nabisco Championship. The way the LPGA schedule is set up, all the breaks look like momentum killers. Prove they don't have to be at this week's Avnet LPGA Classic in Mobile, Ala.
