SAN DIEGO – As play shifted exclusively to Torrey Pines’ South Course for the weekend at the Farmers Insurance Open the “great unwashed” took their place back on the under-rated North layout.

A very muni-looking crowd, shorts, backwards “Charger” hats and untucked golf shirts, descended on the North early Saturday. For the lunchbox rate of $48, San Diego residents took to the same pitch that yielded a second-round 67 to favorite son Phil Mickelson just a day earlier.

Take that Bethpage.
