FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – We ventured out of the media center and down to what used to be the 18th fairway before it became the sixth Great Lake because, well, we’re bored and the media center is starting to smell of moldy umbrellas and coffee.
Crews were hard at it at Bethpage’s closer turning big ponds into little ponds. They were already pumping water out of the fairway, across the first fairway and into a field next to the first tee.
As we said to a colleague who’d mentioned she’d never been to the British Open, “Don’t have to now. All you’re missing is bad food and 300-year-old fixer uppers.'
