Pumpkin Ridge to host 2014 Web.com Tour finale

RSS

When the Web.com Tour concludes its regular season under a revamped schedule in 2014, it will do so from famed Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in Portland, Ore., the tour announced Saturday.

The inaugural WinCo Foods Portland Open will be held Aug. 21-24, 2014 on the Witch Hollow Course, which notably hosted the 1996 U.S. Amateur when Tiger Woods won the third of his three consecutive Amateur titles in dramatic fashion.

With the PGA Tour altering its schedule starting this fall, the Web.com Tour will supplant PGA Tour Q-School as the sole avenue by which to gain access to the main circuit. Of the 50 Tour cards available for Web.com Tour players, 25 will be awarded at the conclusion of next year's event at Pumpkin Ridge to the top players on the season-long money list. Another 25 cards will be up for grabs in the four-event Web.com Tour Finals that will begin next September.

'We welcome Winco Foods to the PGA Tour family of tournament sponsors and are really looking forward to conducting our final regular season event at Pumpkin Ridge,' said Web.com Tour president Bill Calfee. 'As the final full-field event, players' futures will be impacted by what happens there.'

Next year's event will mark the first time in 20 years that a PGA Tour entity has contested an event at Pumpkin Ridge, with the 1994 then-Nike Tour Championship the most recent tournament at one of the Pacific Northwest's most impressive venues. Beaverton, Ore. native and University of Oregon alum Ben Crane, who won twice on the Web.com Tour before adding four PGA Tour titles, will serve as the tournament's official host.

'This is great news that the Web.com Tour will be playing at Pumpkin Ridge in Portland next year,' added Crane as part of the release. 'There is no doubt the Web.com Tour has had a significant impact on the competition we see on the PGA Tour today.'
