SAN FRANCISCO – Phil Mickelson's new putting guru is inside the ropes following Mickelson and partner Anthony Kim in the Presidents Cup leadoff match.
Dave Stockton couldn't help, though, when Kim missed a 4-footer for par at the second hole to give the International team a 1-up lead. Nerves seem to be an early factor for the American team. Mickelson and Kim teamed to three putt the first hole and blow a chance at birdie. Kim also missed a 5-footer for birdie at the fourth that would have squared the match. Stockton, one of the game's great putters, must be tempted to step in and give a lesson. The rules, of course, don't allow it.
