Quiros tabs Harmon as new swing coach

Big-hitting Alvaro Quiros has tabbed swing coach Butch Harmon as the man to help harness his enormous talent, according to a Spanish media report.

Quiros, a six-time winner on the European Tour, has worked with Pepin Rivero for several years and will continue to do so in a different capacity. According to the report, the Spaniard and Harmon began preliminary discussions at the PGA Championship, and one of the things Harmon told Quiros was: “I do not care if your swing is fast and short; the important thing is that it is always the same.”

They will begin working together seriously in the offseason.

It’s been a disappointing 2012 campaign for Quiros, one of the longest hitters in the game. He missed the cut in all four majors, and he has only two top-10 finishes on the European Tour this season – a fifth at the Volvo World Match Play and 10th at the BMW PGA. He’s 64th on the Order of Merit.

Harmon’s current stable of players includes, among others, Dustin Johnson, Nick Watney and Phil Mickelson.
