Rain cant wash out Match Play drawing

RSS

GLADSTONE, N.J. – Rain appears to be following the LPGA. Having departed Mobile, Ala., on Sunday after a washed-out final round, the tour arrives in New Jersey for the Sybase Match Play this week, where Tuesday was another washout. Players were asked to attend a draw-party this afternoon and could do so safe in the knowledge it wasn't hampering their practice schedules.

I arrived early afternoon to a bumpy landing at Newark. Heavy rain has fallen throughout the day, causing streams of water to flow down the fairways. The forecast is looking better for Thursday and Friday with the threat of storms returning for the weekend.

The draw kicked out a couple of mouth-waterers – new world No. 3, Suzann Pettersen vs. Juli Inkster and last week's champion Se Ri Pak against the much talked about Spanish rookie Azahara Munoz.

While we're talking LPGA, I was pleasantly surprised with DirectTV on my flight this morning and whilst watching a British sports news channel, Annika Sorenstam's appointment as Solheim Cup vice captain flashed across the bottom of the screen. Annika will return to the fray to assist Alison Nicholas in Ireland next September. Janice Moodie who played her way into the field in New Jersey this week courtesy of her performance last week, described Annika's appointment as 'great for the team,' a sentiment sure to be echoed by her fellow Europeans.
