Rain showers and baby showers

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – We all remember the 1999 U.S. Open, Pinehurst No. 2, the one-legged pose on the 18th green by eventual champion Payne Stewart, the pager.

That would be Phil Mickelson’s pager, which he had stuffed in his golf bag during his final-round duel with Stewart in case his wife, Amy, went into labor with the couple’s first child.
Saturday at Bethpage had a Pager-gate II feel to it. Sean O’Hair had just signed for his second-consecutive 69 when he started checking his phone. His wife, Jaclyn, is at home in West Chester, Pa., awaiting the O’Hair’s third child any day.

“It would be nice if we didn’t play today or tomorrow (because of approaching storms), I could go home and have the baby and then come back (for the final two rounds on Monday),” O’Hair smiled.

Ross Fisher was also closely monitoring his cell phone. The Englishman is expecting his first child with his wife who is back home in England. His wife is due July 14. That would be British Open Tuesday.

“I’ve heard it could be two weeks early or two weeks late. I’m hoping for two weeks early,” Fisher said.
