A notable first arrived in our e-box early Monday with the release of the year’s first World Golf Ranking. For the first time since the ranking debuted in 1986 Europeans hold down six of the top 10 spots in the year’s first ranking.
Five players were in the top 5 in 2010 and ’09, but the Europeans went more than a dozen years before that with no more than three players in top 10 to begin a season. In fact, 1992 was the last time the Europeans had at least five of the top 10 in the then Sony Ranking.
Pundits dubbed 2010 the “Year of the Euro,” but Monday’s ranking lineup makes us wonder.
