Recovering from leukemia, Lyle won't play in '13

RSS

Jarrod Lyle is expected to announce today that he will not play in 2013 as he continues to recover from leukemia, according to a report Monday in the Herald Sun.

Lyle, 31, played seven events this season but suffered a recurrence of leukemia in March, just days before his wife, Briony, was set to give birth to the couple’s first child, a daughter. The Australian was first diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia at age 17, but recovered well enough to reach the PGA Tour for the first time in 2007.

His future now is murkier than ever, after undergoing a successful bone-marrow transplant in August, according to the report. Upon his return, he would be able to use a major medical extension to play the Tour.

This season, he earned $363,685 in limited action, his best finish coming at the Northern Trust Open, where he tied for fourth.
