Charl Schwartzel, hottest player in golf.
Last week, the wiry South African ended a 20-month winless drought with a dominating 11-shot victory at the Thailand Golf Championship. Now, the 2011 Masters champion has posted rounds of 67-64-64-69 to win by 12 at the European Tour’s Alfred Dunhill Championship. It was his 10th career title.
In his last eight competitive rounds, he is a combined 49 under par while recording only four bogeys. This past week alone, he made 25 birdies and an eagle at Leopard Creek Country Club in Malelane, South Africa.
Schwartzel, ranked No. 23 in the world, hasn’t finished worse than fifth in his past five starts. Prior to this stretch, he hadn’t posted a top-10 finish since April as he battled a rib/abdomen injury.
“It started at the SA Open and from there got better and better,” Schwartzel told reporters. “It’s been a pretty good year now.”
