Former U.S. Golf Association executive Pete Bevacqua has been chosen to replace Joe Steranka as PGA of America CEO, according to a report Wednesday by Golfweek magazine.
Bevacqua, 41, could be introduced as the group’s new leader as early as this weekend, when the PGA of America holds its annual meetings in Baltimore, according to the report.
Bevacqua is replacing Steranka, who announced his announced his retirement in April, effective at the end of the year. He spent seven years in the association’s top post.
Most recently working as the head of the golf division for CAA Sports, Bevacqua spent more than 10 years with the USGA, where he served as both in-house counsel and managing director of U.S. Open championships. In 2007, he was named as the group’s first chief business officer, and in late 2009 was among the candidate under consideration to become the next commissioner of the LPGA, according to the report.
