Report: Silverado to host Open in '14

The Open will have a new home beginning in 2014.

The tournament is scheduled to move next year to the newly renovated North Course at Silverado Resort in Napa, Calif., where Johnny Miller is one of the co-owners, according to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle. This year, the event will serve as the season opener for the 2013-14 season and will be held once again at CordeValle.

The report indicates that tournament officials hope the event can stay at Silverado for two years or possibly three, depending on when another venue, the Institute, completes its construction.

Silverado hosted a PGA Tour event from 1968-80 and a Champions major from 1989-2002.

“It’ll be good for us,” Miller, who joined Silverado’s ownership group in 2010, told the Chronicle. “With my ownership and the coverage we got when I bought it, it’s not like we’re dying for more exposure. But it doesn’t hurt to have the course on the Golf Channel.”
