Roomates Uihlein, Koepka playing rare home game

RSS

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Oddly enough, Brooks Koepka and Peter Uihlein are playing a home game this week.

The two Americans making their way on the European Tour are roommates, sharing an apartment in Palm Beach Gardens, just down the road from PGA National, home to the Honda Classic. Koepka was raised in South Florida, Uihlein moved here.

Uihlein, 24, was asked how Koepka, 23, is as a roommate, and if he ever drinks milk right out of the carton.

“I do that,” Uihlein cracked.

“Yeah, he’s bad,” Koepka said. “He’s always doing it.”

Honda Classic: Articles, videos and photos

Uihlein and Koepka are both playing the Honda Classic on sponsor exemptions. They’re rarely at their South Florida apartment, with both players making names for themselves on the European Tour while also trying to earn PGA Tour membership. They’re ultra competitive, even when they are on R&R at home.

“We’ve broken a ping-pong table,” Koepka said. “We’re pretty competitive, on the golf course, and off the golf course.”

How competitive are they? Uihlein is No. 68 in the world rankings, Koepka is No. 69.

“We’re both kind of pushing each other to get better and better,” Koepka said.

Koepka won three European Tour Challenge Tour events last year, earning a promotion to the European Tour. Uihlein won the Madeira Islands Open on the European Tour last year. They're both trying to play well enough in PGA Tour events to earn special temporary membership this year.
