Rose climbs leaderboard with 66

RSS

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – This just in: Eight birdies in the final round of a major championship is a pretty good number.

That’s how many Justin Rose totaled at the 94th PGA Championship on Sunday, leading to a 6-under 66 that helped him climb up the leaderboard.

“From my perspective, obviously a really great way to finish,” Rose said. “Had a great round going yesterday, didn't manage to finish it off, whereas I did today. I know I hit it in the water on 17, but I was kind of happy with that. I had my foot on the accelerator, and I felt like I had a hot hand, and I was really thinking if I could finish 2-3, post a number and see what happens. At that point it was worth a try.”

Rose feels like he’s on the verge of capturing his first major championship.

“I've got a lot of self-belief now,” he explained. “I think my game is good enough to win these golf tournaments. At Augusta, I was right up there, finished eighth in the end. The U.S. Open I only finished six back, and there's a million shots I wish I could take over that week. And obviously this week … [is] more evidence that my game is moving in the right direction.”
