Rose overcomes vertigo, sits in 3rd at BMW PGA

Justin Rose overcame a minor bout of vertigo to grab a share of third place after the first round of the BMW PGA Championship.

'This morning, the weirdest thing, I guess it was some sort of vertigo I was struggling with, I was nearly falling over really,' Rose said Thursday.

Rose shot 5-under 67 to trail Peter Lawrie and David Drysdale by a shot at Wentworth Club in Surrey, England.

The Englishman said he ate a good breakfast, slept well and seemed otherwise healthy. After receiving anti-nausea medication from a European Tour doctor before his tee time, Rose made four birdies in his first seven holes, making two more against just one bogey on the back nine.

The awkward morning may have helped Rose to an easier time at the demanding West Course.

'Not ideal but sometimes it lowers the expectations,' he said, 'and it's funny how that often works out to your favor.'
