Rose playing at Doral, shoulder isn't '100 percent yet'

DORAL, Fla. – Consider it a case of erring on the side of caution.

Justin Rose skipped last week’s Honda Classic to continue nursing his ailing right shoulder, but the Englishman said the move was more precautionary than it was an issue with pain.

“Maybe four weeks in a row starting the season coming off the back of a little something was overly ambitious, and I just felt like it was more prudent to not play,” he said on Tuesday at the WGC-Cadillac Championship. “I just wanted to have a week of letting it really settle down and not compound things and not push it too hard, too early.”

Rose, who lost in the second round of the WGC-Match Play two weeks ago and tied for 45th at the Northern Trust Open, said his shoulder has been improving steadily but isn’t “100 percent yet.”

Rose played in the Seminole Member-Pro on Monday and plans to play the next three weeks (Valspar Championship and Arnold Palmer Invitational) before taking two weeks off to prepare for the Masters.
