Rose returns to St Andrews

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – Five years may as well have been a lifetime ago for Justin Rose. At the 2005 Open Championship at St. Andrews the Englishman began Thursday as the first alternate and for nearly 12 hours he remained in limbo.

“It was a tough long day,” said Justin Rose, who qualified for this year’s championship via a mini-money list that ran through the AT&T National.

The situation is much different this time for Rose, who has won twice on the PGA Tour this year and is among the favorites to win the claret jug at 20 to 1, a dramatic change in roles that didn’t escape his attention.

“I just did not like the feeling,” Rose said. “I wanted to be a part of it. Felt I should be a part of it.”
