NFL teams file weekly “injury reports” and it’s getting to the point that this year’s Ryder Cup captains may have to add a similar rundown to their “to do” lists as the matches approach.
While Europe’s Colin Montgomerie continues to hope that Lee Westwood’s calf injury is fully healed in time for the matches (word from Westwood’s camp this week is that the Englishman’s rehabilitation is ahead of schedule), his American counterpart Corey Pavin is also watching Hunter Mahan carefully.
Mahan had to have treatment on some ribs on his left side that had popped out during the third round at the BMW Championship. According to Mahan’s trainer Dr. Craig Davies the injury occurred on the fourth hole.
“It’s the first time he’s had an injury in that area,” Davies said. “It’s just a little sore now from the surrounding muscles.”
Davies said he will keep an eye on the injury next week at East Lake but it “should be no problem heading to the Ryder Cup.”
