Ryder Cup opening pairings out


NEWPORT, Wales – Americans Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson vs. Europe's Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer.

That' was the leadoff match named when European captain Colin Montgomerie and American captain Corey Pavin announced the pairings for Friday’s fourballs in the opening session of the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor. Play begins at 7:45 a.m. local time, 2:45 a.m. Eastern.

Here’s all the United States vs. European pairings:

2:45 a.m. ET: Mickelson/Johnson vs. Westwood/Kaymer

3 a.m. ET: Stewart Cink/Matt Kuchar vs. Graeme McDowell/Rory McIlroy

3:15 a.m. ET: Steve Stricker/Tiger Woods vs. Ian Poulter/Ross Fisher

3:30 a.m. ET: Bubba Watson/Jeff Overton vs. Luke Donald/Padraig Harrington.

Pavin’s playing four rookies in the first session (Johnson, Kuchar, Watson and Overton) with Montgomerie playing three (Kaymer, McIlroy and Fisher).

Pavin’s sitting Jim Furyk, Zach Johnson, Rickie Fowler and Hunter Mahan to start. Montgomerie’s sitting Peter Hanson, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Edoardo Molinari and Francesco Molinari).
