The PGA Tour announced Tuesday that Sanderson Farms has agreed to extend the title sponsorship of its event for three more years.
Beginning in 2014, the tournament at Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Miss., will move from July to late October and be held opposite the WGC-HSBC Champions in China. (It had been held opposite the British Open.) The purse will also increase from $1 million to $4 million.
“In regard to moving to the front of the schedule, we anticipate a number of players will use this as an opportunity to get out of the gates fast and strengthen their early standing in the FedEx Cup,” said Andy Pazder, the PGA Tour’s chief of operations. “The overall tournament experience also should be enhanced by less volatile weather and more moderate temperatures. Plus, the players undoubtedly will enjoy playing the Champion Bermuda greens that time of year.”
