RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – With temperatures expected to reach the upper 90s at the Kraft Nabisco Thursday, Sandra Gal is walking under an open umbrella. It isn't cooling the German's game down. The breakthrough winner at the Kia Classic last week is off to a fast start and in the early hunt on the back nine of the first round.
Gal outplayed world No. 2 Jiyai Shin to win the Kia. She is outplaying No. 1 Yani Tseng so far today in their pairing.
Impressive in her news conference Wednesday, Gal said she wasn't overwhelmed with the pressure dueling Shin. Gal looks like a player who expects a lot more success. She is radiating confidence.
